Natural Relief for Migraine Headaches

by Karen Brooks on September 7, 2011

Did you know that someone in the United States goes to the emergency room with a migraine headache every 10 seconds?

If you get migraines, you know the pain, nausea, and inconvenience they bring. The lost work due to migraine disease costs more than $13 billion every year in the US alone. Over 28 million Americans suffer with this condition. Three times as many women suffer as men. When you couple this with the amount of people who are affected by tension headaches, you begin to realize that over $1 billion, yes BILLION is spent for over the counter medications to treat headaches and migraines.

The pain and light sensitivity can be debilitating. The cost of prescription drugs can be as high as $400 per month, and there is no guarantee that they work! There are over 100 medications being used to help prevent headaches and migraine attacks.  Beside the migraine pain, there can be health risks involved when using the medication.

Would it interest you to know that relief could be as easy as taking a deep breath, or topically applying oil? Imagine how you would feel knowing that relief is just a few minutes away, enabling you to enjoy your friends and family, or remain at work for the day!

M-Grain can be the oil you are looking for. It is an essential oil, consisting of Marjoram, Lavender, Peppermint and Helichrysum. This is a blend that combines oils traditionally used to relieve headaches, nausea, and depression. It is most effective when inhaled.

Just rub 2 drops in the palms of your hand, cup over your nose and inhale. Massage along the brain stem. Apply on forehead, temples, crown, shoulders, back of neck and on the VitaFlex points on your feet.

Here are some more ways to apply and use essential oils for headaches:

Inhalation by diffuser: Diffuse oil 15 minutes, 3-5 times per day. Directly inhale from your hand or bottle 3-8 times per day

Topically: Dilute 50/50 with a carrier oil and apply 1-3 drops on the back of the neck, behind ears, on the temples, forehead and under the nose. Be careful to keep oil away from the eyes.

Orally: Place one drop on the tongue, then push the tongue against the roof of the mouth.

Don’t be one of the 28 million who live with migraines. There is finally a natural treatment that you can’t afford to live without.

Brain Fog – Should you Cleanse Your Brain?

by Karen Brooks on August 31, 2011

Do you feel like you are in a brain fog? Having trouble concentrating and thinking clearly? Can’t remember? We spend so much time cleansing our exterior body and doing internal cleansing, but have you ever considered doing a brain cleanse?

Many of my readers have never heard of brain cleansing, and quite frankly, I gave it little thought myself until last Sunday. Here is what I researched:

SUGAR – If you are like me, you have a bit of a sweet tooth for something. Admit it. What is your weakness? The holidays are fast approaching and Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are some of the most challenging days for watching sugar consumption. Sugar can be detrimental to brain activity, and cause hyperactivity. Just watch what happens when you feed children sugar! Work on reducing the amount of sugar in your diet. Make sure you read labels. Sugar is listed in foods that you least suspect would contain it.

Work on changing your eating habits and consuming more natural, freshly prepared dishes. You will start to notice that you will be calmer and your brain will not be racing quite as much. Your performance and focus will improve.

Caffeine – Studies have shown that caffeine decreases blood circulation in the brain. Most Americans consume an average of just over 2 cups of coffee daily. This small amount daily can constrict blood vessels in the brain and cause a reduction in cerebral blood flow. Avoid caffeine and you will help keep your brain clear.

Essential Oils – Excellent for brain function, oils are able to go through the blood-brain barrier and carry oxygen to the brain. Make sure that you use quality therapeutic grade oils, such as those produced by Young Living.  Several blends that are extremely helpful in improving mental focus include:

Clarity

Brain Power

Magnify Your Purpose

I personally am using Magnify Your Purpose, and have seen results in less than an hour. There was so much on my to-do list, and I was falling behind in paperwork and housework this past weekend.  It seemed as if I would never catch up or have any time to enjoy the weekend for myself. When I applied the essential oil blend, I started to have laser like  focus and worked through each task methodically and quickly. Outside distractions did not make me wander away from the task at hand.  I accomplished more this past weekend than I did in the previous 4 weekends alone. Best of all, I had some time to sit and enjoy a book as well. The aroma in the house smelled wonderful, and everyone was complimenting me on my perfume. It was as simple as putting a few drops on my wrists and behind my ears three times a day.

Don’t forget to include Omega 3 rich fatty acids in your diet, or as a supplement. These fatty acids help to nourish the brain, and keep it functioning at its highest potential.

Take a minute to leave me a comment. Have you ever done anything to nourish or clean your brain? If so, what and how did it work for you? Don’t forget to share your ideas with us!
