I am amazed by the number of clients who call me and say, I can’t believe how much better I feel when I use essential oils!

Scented Oils Can Trigger Powerful Emotional Memories

by Karen Brooks on July 30, 2011

Did you realize that your sense of smell can trigger memories and bring them back to mind? I am sure that you can remember familiar smells like that of fresh baked bread or cookies. What about the smell of fresh cut grass or the clean smell of the air right after a thunderstorm?  Whenever you first smell these kinds of aromas, your brain creates associations with the smell and the experience. Automatically, it attaches positive or negative emotions that you are feeling at the time you were first introduced to the smell.  In the future, when you experience the smell again, you also experience the initial emotion that you felt when you were first introduced to it.

Aromatherapy, the use of aromatic plants for wellness, acts in a similar manner.  An aromatic oil is breathed and it can trigger the sense of an emotion. Emotions such as sadness, grief, or anger can be released and replaced with positive emotions such as joy, comfort, peace and calmness.

There are many blends available, but two of my favorites are Young Living’s therapeutic blends of Release and Joy. They can help to rid yourself of unwanted emotions and replace them with desirable ones. Here is the protocol:

1. Place a few drops of Release over the liver and hold it as you feel heat release and emotions calm.

2. Add a few drops of Joy to your bath water to uplift your mood before you start the day.

3. Diffuse Release for a time, then Joy, to move the stale air out of the house.

4. When negative emotions try to creep back, apply Release to the heart.

5. Put Joy on the crown of the head to invigorate, enhance, and create positive emotions.

The right combination of oils can help your day go smoothly. Start off the day by grabbing Joy essential oil blend to empower you to take on the challenges of the day. Remember that in your first waking moments, you should prepare your body both emotionally and spiritually for the day ahead. Before going to bed, use Release to clear and let go of any negative experiences you have had throughout the day.

Discover the power of aromatherapy and how it can enhance the quality of your life. Just like my satisfied customers who experience the oils tell me, your life won’t be the same!
